Franca Sozzani Editor in Chief of Italian Vogue wrote a post about the issues of skin color within the fashion industry stating “Iman, Naomi, Liya Kebede, Alec Wek and many others are a proof” and “The truth is that real beauty doesn’t care for skin color or nationality.”
Nina Garcia Thinks ‘There’s Diversity Already’ in Fashion
Thank you Nina Garcia for making this statement. Nina said “she’s not worried about the lack of diversity in the fashion industry: “I think there’s diversity already. I think it’s been a little bit blown up out of proportion.” I 100% agree, it sure is being blown out of proportion. I’ve notice that when people complain about the lack of diversity they seem to only look at 2 areas of the fashion industry, 1. Modeling and 2. Fashion Editors, they only make up a % of the industry everyone ignores, makeup artist, hair stylist, stylist, photographers, and many more careers that make up the fashion industry. I think it’s time for people to stop nagging and complaining and do some research on those of various ethnicity’s who are doing well or making a name for themselves in the industry.
Also I think it’s important for people to realize that it is up to a model to earn and work their way up to being a well recognized model. The same goes for fashion editors or anyone who wants to get into the industry. No one is handed entitlements. The designers, models and those who are at the top of their game worked hard to get there it was not handed to them because of skin color. And for those who make think that, they know nothing about the industry at all.
