Hi Ajak, how do you feel to be the breakout star of 2010?
I never could have imagined the success I have already experienced. It feels good, especially since I’ve had so many people in my life that didn’t believe in me. One of the first things that I purchased was a Givenchy bag…now I am working on first New York apartment. I look forward to everything this career has to offer me.
Your family is your rock. What are your favorite things to do together?
I love doing anything and everything with my family. All my time at home is dedicated to them. We go on day trips to the zoo and hang out in Luna Park…my family always remind me who I am and where I come from. They would never accept a “new Ajak”. At the same time they are supportive of whatever I choose to do, of course they would prefer me to be closer to home but they understand that this is a once in a lifetime experience.
What about your friends?
My friends keep me laughing and remind me to be young and free. Both are very grounding in different ways.
Describe yourself to someone who has never met you before….
Energetic, polite, honest and sweet.
What has been your favorite photo shoot to date?
Honestly I have been so fortunate to work on jobs that have always left me feeling inspired that I can’t pick one favorite, as they are all my favorites! Edward (Enninful) and Emma (Summerton) are a team I could work with 24/7 and still feel the love from them. They are the best team ever. They always make me feel like I have this special talent and I love them for that. The i-D shoot was the first punk shoot I have ever done and the first time I have worn clothes that are so gothic and punk. I loved it. The only problem..the shoes were a bit heavy!
Who are your favorite designers?
OMG. I love Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, Lanvin, Jean Paul Gaultier, Chanel, Chloe, Jimmy Choo, Prada, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton..I could go on forever.
You are known for your amazing long legs. How do you keep fit, healthy and ready for the runway?
I live for eating junk food. So I don’t know how I still stay super skinny and look so fit, I guess it’s genetic.
What’s your favorite food?
Pizza and chicken pasta.
Describe a typical day in your life…
It’s summer in Australia now and I hate wearing clothes in summer so I’m spending most of my time running around in a bikini at the beach with my friends and family.
If you weren’t a model, where would you be now?
Hopefully studying criminal justice at Victoria University…I would like to study law at some point. I dream of being a lawyer and of course being married and having children. ..but that’s still a long way away.
Do your brothers and sisters plan to follow in your footsteps?
I think there may only be room for one model in my family!
You recently dyed your hair blonde. Do blondes really have more fun?
My blonde was envisioned by Edward (Enninful) and Jimmy Paul. Does blonde hair make life more fun? Not really, but it definitely helps.
Describe your personal style..
Chic and simple. A pair of jeans, a t-shirt, high heels and I’m good to go. I don’t like anything over-dressed.
What makes you happy?
Seeing my little brothers and sisters happy. Going to the spa or chilling at home with a box of cookies, a crate of Naked Mighty Mango juice and watching Lifetime or HBO all day. Bliss.
What’s the last book you read?
Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang by Chelsea Handler. I read it on the plane to London and it’s the funniest book I have ever read.
What Music do you play loud?
I love my hip hop, R&B, soul R&B, Pop, Reggae and African music. I also love drake; I think he is a very talented man and he is so damn hot! I would love to meet him. I’d probably kiss him and give him a hug or something if i did.
You have been described as “an agents dream”, what do you think is the secret to your success?
That’s so nice to hear. I dont know if there is a secret, I work hard and aim to do as I am directed. I always stay upbeat and roll with the punches.
What is your favorite city?
Paris is my favourite city in the world.
What are you most proud of in your career so far?
I am proud of everything that I have been doing.
Tell us something about you that people might not know…
I’m actually a very shy person.
What advice would you give other young people living in Sudan?
Follow your dreams and never give up no matter what people say.
